Joseph speculated in The Lost Pyramids of Rock Lake that Kennedy may have dived on one of the structures in the northern end of the lake. In honor of this supposed find, he dubbed it the “Kennedy Pyramid.”² But these explanations of the Kennedy dive always troubled me. I had been to Rock Lake several times previous to our expedition, scouting the area and trying to get a feel for it. By Kennedy’s own account, it would have been almost impossible to swim that far north to Bass Rock Bar-I and survey it. Further, being a diver myself, it seemed obvious to me that Kennedy could not have started on the south end of the lake, swum north almost 3 miles, and hit the northern pyramids without being half-fish, or at least having some self-propelled underwater sled. I was able to eventually interview John Kennedy and can attest he did not exhibit any gills or fish-like appendages, nor did his account of the 1967 dive disclose any type of underwater conveyance, other than his flippers. When we discussed the structures that Kennedy was supposed to have dived on, he, too, was uncomfortable with their recollected location.
